Titan's board approved its September-quarter results after market hours on 5 November 2026. The first headline looked spectacular: profit more than doubled. Strip out a one-time accounting gain and profit still rose 54%, jewellery grew 24% despite record gold prices, and watches had one of their strongest quarters ever. But the margin most readers will quote is not the margin Titan actually earned. Here is the quarter, read properly.
Quick Answer
Titan's Q2 FY27 profit rose 54% to ₹1,722 crore, excluding a ₹671 crore one-time gain — the reported ₹2,393 crore includes it. Jewellery grew 24% to ₹17,495 crore, watches 27% and eyewear 28%. The domestic jewellery margin was 14% as reported, 10.7% after stripping a customs-duty gain. Results came after market close, so the share reacts Friday, 6 November. The headline number, and the gain behind it
Titan reported consolidated net profit of ₹2,393 crore for Q2 FY27, up 113.7% from ₹1,120 crore a year ago — but that includes a ₹671 crore one-time gain from revaluing a financial liability. Take it out and profit is ₹1,722 crore, up 54% year on year — the honest headline. A company growing profit by more than half does not need the gain to look good, and burying it would mislead anyone comparing this quarter with the next. Total income, excluding bullion and digital-gold sales and the non-operating gain, rose 25% to ₹20,533 crore from ₹16,407 crore; revenue from operations was ₹20,614 crore, up 10.1%. Consolidated EBITDA rose 59% to ₹2,984 crore, ahead of street estimates near ₹2,394 crore. For the first half of FY27, profit excluding the gain rose 58% to ₹3,499 crore, with comparable total income up 32% to ₹41,286 crore. Standalone profit was ₹1,572 crore, up 56.3%, on revenue of ₹17,830 crore, up 7.8%. Keep standalone and consolidated figures separate — they describe different scopes of the same company, and mixing them is how earnings stories go wrong.Jewellery did the heavy lifting
Jewellery is most of Titan, and it delivered: up 24% to ₹17,495 crore, excluding bullion and digital-gold sales. Studded jewellery — diamond-set pieces — grew in the early thirties, helped by the Festival of Diamonds campaign. India jewellery rose 21% to ₹16,343 crore; Tanishq, Mia and Zoya together grew 20% to ₹14,935 crore, and CaratLane rose 31% to ₹1,408 crore. Gold prices are at record levels — MCX December gold closed at ₹1,44,768 per 10 grams on 5 November — and the festive season largely shifted into the December quarter. World Gold Council data cited by Reuters: Indian gold-jewellery demand volume fell 20% year on year while spending rose 16% — Indians bought less gold by weight but paid more, an implied price rise of roughly 45%. Titan still grew jewellery revenue 24% because the growth came from studded pieces and premium brands, not plain gold. Gold-coin sales declined. The margin lesson: 14% becomes 10.7%
The jewellery business reported EBIT of ₹2,300 crore at a 13.1% margin; the domestic jewellery business reported EBIT of ₹2,281 crore at a 14% margin. But after adjusting for customs-duty gains, domestic jewellery EBIT was ₹1,745 crore at a 10.7% margin. That ₹536 crore of EBIT, 3.3 points of margin, is a duty-related gain — not the margin of selling jewellery. Both numbers are real and disclosed: 14% is the reported margin, 10.7% the operating margin once the one-off benefit is removed. Anyone valuing Titan on a 14% jewellery margin would pay for a gain that may not repeat. The same discipline applies to the profit line: quote ₹1,722 crore, not ₹2,393 crore, when you talk about how the business performed.Watches, eyewear and the rest of the group
Watches had one of their strongest quarters: revenue up 27% to ₹1,881 crore, led by premium analogue watches growing in the early thirties; EBIT ₹412 crore at a 21.9% margin. Eyewear grew 28% to ₹281 crore, EBIT ₹23 crore at 8.2%. International jewellery more than doubled, up 105% to ₹1,152 crore, helped by the inclusion of Damas; Tanishq, Mia and CaratLane's international business grew 41% to ₹788 crore, while Damas contributed ₹364 crore of revenue and a ₹24 crore operating loss. Titan added 42 jewellery stores in India and opened a Tanishq store in Los Angeles. The board also approved a ₹2,500 crore fundraising plan and announced Noel Tata will retire as vice-chairman and non-executive director from 12 November 2026, under Tata Group governance guidelines. Titan closed on 5 November at ₹4,834.60, up 1.69%, before the results — about 7% below its 52-week high of ₹5,186.70. The share reacts to these results first on Friday, 6 November. At a price-to-earnings ratio of about 79.6, the stock is priced for growth — a valuation fact, not a recommendation. What it means for Indian readers
Three takeaways, none of them a buy or sell signal. First, premiumisation is doing the work: with gold this expensive, growth comes from design, studded pieces and brands, not volume. If you are buying jewellery this wedding season, most of the price is making charges and stones, not gold weight — compare those and the buyback terms before headline prices. Second, read past the first number: a profit that "more than doubles" and a 14% margin both shrink once one-time gains are removed, and the business underneath is still strong. Asking "what is in this number?" is worth more than any single result. Third, remember what the market already knew: the Sensex closed at 79,310.01 on 5 November, up 2,008.61 points or 2.6%, and the Nifty at 24,536.60, up 576 or 2.4% — the biggest single-day rally in seven months, on falling crude and the US midterm outcome. Titan rose 1.69% with the market before its results; Friday's move is the verdict on the results, not the rally.Read any earnings result in 4 checks
1. Find the one-time items — gains, duty benefits, asset sales — then read the number without them. 2. Separate standalone from consolidated — different scopes, and the bigger number is not always the better one. 3. Ask where growth came from: volume, price, or a new business — Titan's came from studded jewellery and premium watches, not gold volume. 4. Check the margin the same way: reported, then after one-offs. If they differ by 3 points, the business did not earn the higher one. What was Titan's Q2 FY27 profit?
