Frequently asked questions

Which tax regime is better for me?

For most salaried people below about ₹12.75 lakh the new regime is tax-free. The old regime tends to win only with very large deductions, often HRA plus home loan interest plus 80C. This calculator compares both on your numbers.

Are deductions allowed in the new regime?

Only the standard deduction of ₹75,000 for salaried taxpayers, plus a few items such as employer NPS contribution. Most old-regime deductions such as 80C and HRA are not available.

Does this include surcharge?

No. It is built for incomes up to ₹50 lakh. Above that, surcharge applies and you should use a full tax computation or ask a chartered accountant.
